Hong Kong Airport to Shekou and Fuyong Ferry (SkyPier)
Hong Kong International Airport's SkyPier ferry terminal links the airport with Shenzhen Shekou and Shenzhen Fuyong (the ferry terminal near Shenzhen Bao'an Airport), but HKIA states the service is for transfer passengers only. If you arrive by air and continue to Shenzhen by sea, you may be able to go without entering Hong Kong — provided a sailing is operating and you follow the transfer procedure. Anyone starting a trip in Hong Kong has to go by road.
How the air-to-sea transfer works
- Before you fly, check with HKIA and the ferry operator that a sailing to Shekou or Fuyong runs on your date and how tickets and baggage are handled.
- After landing, follow the transfer signs instead of going to Hong Kong immigration.
- Buy or collect the ferry ticket at the transfer desk in the arrivals area.
- Baggage: ask your airline at check-in about baggage for the ferry transfer and follow the transfer desk's instructions.
- Board at SkyPier and clear Mainland arrival at Shekou or Fuyong.
HKIA's ferry transfer page says SkyPier is not for passengers starting their trip in Hong Kong and that the ferry service can be temporarily unavailable. Third-party timetables may be out of date; confirm with the operator.
Shekou or Fuyong?
| Port | Area | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Shekou | Nanshan district | Shekou, Sea World, Qianhai, Nanshan Science Park, Shenzhen Bay |
| Fuyong | Bao'an district, near Shenzhen Airport | Shenzhen Bao'an Airport connections, Bao'an, Fuyong |
After arrival, continue by taxi, ride-hailing or metro to your address.
When the ferry does not fit
The ferry is not an option if you have already entered Hong Kong, no sailing fits your arrival, or your baggage cannot be transferred. The road alternatives are:
- Private car to Nanshan or Shekou via Shenzhen Bay, RMB 800 / HKD 930 per vehicle — see Hong Kong Airport to Nanshan and Shekou
- Private car to Shenzhen Airport, RMB 900 / HKD 1,050 per vehicle — see Hong Kong Airport to Shenzhen Airport
- Cross-boundary coach from the airport's Mainland transport counters to Shenzhen Bay
Shenzhen Bay passenger clearance normally runs 06:30–24:00, according to the Transport Department. Late-night pickups between 00:00 and 06:59 add RMB 200 / HKD 230 and use a 24-hour port.
